Catholic schools across the country are beginning to include students with disabilities in the general education classroom. Access to Mass, assemblies, clubs, sports, and performing arts are all on the table. But the integration of inclusion brings with it many important considerations. "How much will this cost?" is at the top of the list, followed closely by comments such as, "My teachers won't be prepared," or, "How would this possibly work?" and even,"Won't this hurt the other students?" All of these questions are common, so if you've asked these, you're not alone. Here at Catholic Inclusion, it is our mission to accompany you on your inclusion journey, to help guide and support you as you open your doors to the children of God who learn differently and need some extra support.
The services we offer are individualized to you and your school’s needs. There is no one-size-fits-all solution; Inclusion is done differently at each school, and each school has its own character, history and personality. There can be no cookie cutter option when it comes to developing special education services for your school. That’s why it’s vitally important for you to have a customized plan in place as you start offering accessible education services that will be successful for your students in the long term.
We've heard the conversation so many times: A Catholic school wants to accept a student with an intellectual disability, but doesn’t know where to start. It’s unsure of funding and hesitant about teacher preparedness. That’s where we come in! We are here to support and accompany schools as they begin these services.
